In health care few books exist that include intercultural theory and apply this to the health care setting. We have just published a book that meets this need. The book “Intercultural Interactions for Health Professions / Interkulturelle Begegnungen in Gesundheitsberufen” was released in March 2020.

What makes this book unique? It is:

Introduction: Cultural and diversity differences are often the biggest challenge to successful interactions for health care professionals and patients. A lack of understanding of these factors causes conflicts, creates distrust, results in inaccurate treatment and leads to poor health outcomes. Therefore, bridging cultural and diversity differences is crucial. The 25 critical incidents help build intercultural competence for health care professionals. Each of them comes with at least four possible options to choose from, and an analysis indicating the best option(s). Participants can use this set of critical incidents to evaluate themselves and understand the reasons for these incidents.
Kultur und Diversity stellen oft die grösste Herausforderung für die erfolgreiche Interaktion zwischen Gesundheitspersonal und Patienten dar. Mangelndes Verständnis verursacht Konflikte, schafft Misstrauen, führt zu unsachgemässer Behandlung und hat negative Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit. Daher ist es entscheidend, Kultur- und Diversity-Unterschiede zu verstehen. 25 Fallbeispiele unterstützen das Gesundheitspersonal beim Aufbau interkultureller Kompetenzen. Bei jedem Beispiel können Sie aus mindestens vier Handlungsmöglichkeiten wählen; anschliessend wird erklärt, welche Wahl die beste ist. Die Beispiele fördern die Selbstreflexion und helfen Konfliktsituationen besser zu verstehen.
