Volunteer Opportunities

Our Volunteer Assistant positions are remote positions and allow you to set your weekly schedule as to the hours you work each week. While the roles do not come with any compensation, the experience in developing vital skills and intercultural networks will be hugely beneficial. Please find more detailed descriptions of each role below.


Strategic Assistant
(approx. 10h/week)

As a Strategic Assistant, you will be supervised by World Council’s Chief Implementation Strategy officer, Kelly Pengelly, and there may be times when you will be involved in meetings with the World Council leadership. Your role will require but not be limited to the following:

  • Conduct Grant Research:  Researching funding opportunities, contribute to the process of grant writing, and produce standardized concept notes, and supplemental research to support grants;
  • Editing Support for the Intercultural Connector Newsletter: Promoting Calls for Articles; Reviewing and editing submissions, developing guidelines for collaborative submissions and editing, utilizing an intercultural framework in reviewing submissions;
  • Research support: research ways to engage the Global South, find current Global South scholarship and scholars interested in intercultural competence, especially as it intersects with international development, gender, human rights, etc.; 
  • Other activities and program assistance essential to the development of a start-up NGO.

Website Assistant Manager 
(approx. 3-5h/week)

As a Website Assistant Manager, your role will be to assist with maintenance of World Council’s website (https://iccglobal.org) which is built on WordPress. If the following applies to you, we are happy to receive your application for this position: You…

  • have some experience with WordPress (e.g., managing plugins, updating pages, managing menus, posting blogs) – no coding skills or CSS skills are necessary, but they would be a great added bonus,
  • are familiar with the block-based Gutenberg editor in WordPress,
  • can make basic edits to graphics/images (e.g., cropping, resizing, coloring, etc.),
  • have access to a reasonably fast internet connection for multiple hours at a time,
  • have access to a computer or tablet,
  • have used Slack, Google Drive, and Trello,
  • are completely reliable (you show up for meetings on time, you do the work you promised to do, you don’t break stuff),
  • are an excellent communicator in writing (you read and respond thoroughly, accurately, and timely to emails, you respond on Slack when you are pinged, and you can be trusted to make basic edits to texts),

Program Assistant
(approx. 5-7h/week)

As a Program Assistant, you will directly assist the Strategy Team and the Founding President, and there may be times when you will be involved in meetings with the World Council leadership. Your role will require but not be limited to the following:

  • Help track working groups and volunteer teams
  • Help compile mailing lists and contact information
  • Support the volunteer teams, especially the events and communications teams
  • Support the work of the Strategy Team and the Founding President
  • Create surveys and other documents for use by the World Council
  • Work on intercultural competence-related projects 
  • Engage in other responsibilities and activities as requested
