IAIR Conference in New York in June - and ICC Global meeting!

Hello everyone! I'm curious as to who will be attending the IAIR Conference in New York in June... there will be an ICC Symposium there led by Lily Arasaratnam-Smith and myself, with presenters being some of the contributors to the forthcoming book "Intercultural Competence in Higher Education: International Approaches, Application, and Assessment" (Routledge, 2017). I think it would be really good if we can arrange an ICC Global meeting there.

ICC and Critical Pedagogy

Dear all,

I hope you are having a lovely week so far!

I am working on a creating a curriculum for a pre/post/study abroad program with a focus on ICC development using critical pedagogy and I was wondering if any of you had ran across a similar curriculum.

Thank you in advance!

Introduction

Hello everyone,

My name is Emmanuelle Chiocca and I am a PhD student in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from France but have been living in the US for about four years now.

After earning a BA in history and an MA in Contemporary History with a focus on Native American History, as well as a BA in English, I finally discovered a passion for education, and more specifically its international and intercultural aspects.

David Smith - Introducing myself to the ICC Global Community

Good morning to all in the ICC Global community. My name is David and I am a new student of global competence and intercultural competence but a long-term practitioner in many of its aspects.

I am originally from the UK (London) but have spent the last 20 years living and working in mainland Europe. This has included long-term residence in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania (where I am currently based). As a student of modern languages in the 1980s, I also spent 18 months living in France at that time.

Welcome to new ICC Global members from spring 2014!

All - Let's extend a warm welcome to new members of ICC Global who've joined us during this past spring. Some joined as a result of an Intercultural Learner Conference held at Duke in March of this, featuring ICC scholars Alvino Fantini and Guo-ming Chen. Others joined as a result of some ICC sessions at the recent NAFSA conference in San Diego. And others have joined by hearing about ICC Global from others. We're glad you're part of this community.

Welcoming colleagues to ICC Global!

All - It's been an exciting time for the ICC Global Network... we had another face-to-face research meeting during the Intercultural Horizons conference last week in Siena, with over 30 persons in attendance. As a result, we've had nearly 20 colleagues join ICC Global in the last week - so we want to extend a very warm welcome to those who've just joined us! And we want to invite you to introduce yourselves and share more about your own ICC work via postings in these discussion forums - we look forward to learning from and with you!

Cultural mentoring

Hello all:

I have come across the term 'cultural mentoring' in research articles that note this to be one of the most effective interventions in fostering student learning for intercultural competence (mostly in articles related to study abroad). For instance, the Georgetown Consortium study published in Frontiers by Vande Berg (2009) refers to this.
